The Experience

Before You Go

Arrive Early for Check-In

Plan to be at Pier A gate at least 20 minutes before departure—harbor parking is limited and check-in is required for all guests.

Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Apply reef-safe SPF before boarding and bring a light UV shirt—re-apply in shaded areas to protect skin and coral.

Bring a Small Dry Bag

Protect phones, cameras, and valuables from spray and the deck shower—waterproof storage keeps gear usable after snorkeling.

Watch Sea Conditions During Whale Season

If traveling Jan–Mar, expect detours for whale sightings; captains prioritize safety but seas can be choppier—motion-sickness meds recommended if you’re susceptible.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Quiet snorkeling at shallow reef pockets west of Diamond Head where turtles frequently graze
  • Sunset views toward Magic Island and Ala Moana from the boat are less crowded than shore vantage points

Wildlife

  • Green sea turtles (honu)
  • Humpback whales (seasonal Jan–Mar)

Conservation Note

Operators emphasize reef-safe sunscreen, no-touch policies for turtles and marine life, and minimal-anchor practices to protect coral. Guests are asked to not feed wildlife and to pack out waste.

Waikiki was historically a coastal retreat for Hawaiian royalty and an important fishing area; Kewalo Basin developed later as a working marina serving Oʻahu’s small boats.
