The Experience

Before You Go

Be a competent swimmer

This tour requires competent swimming and comfort in choppy water—if you’re unsure, discuss alternatives with the operator before booking.

Pack a waterproof camera

Bring a small waterproof camera or housing—the snorkeling and penguin boardwalks offer excellent close-up shots.

Layer for wind and sun

Cape weather can swing from sunny to brisk sea wind—pack a windproof jacket and sun protection for daytime drives.

Expect seas to determine the plan

Snorkeling is conditional on safe sea states; have flexible expectations and plan for an alternative date if canceled.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Sunrise viewpoint at Maiden's Cove for 12 Apostles light on the cliffs
  • Old Cape Road lookout between Simon's Town and Muizenberg for quieter False Bay panoramas

Wildlife

  • Cape Fur Seal
  • African Penguin

Conservation Note

Boulder’s penguin colony and local marine operations are managed with restricted access and boardwalks to minimize disturbance; operators follow strict wildlife distance and handling guidelines.

The Cape Peninsula has been navigated for centuries—Cape Point’s lighthouse and nearby shipwrecks recall early European maritime routes and local maritime culture.
