The Experience

Before You Go

Meet at Whaler's Village sand check-in

Arrive 20–30 minutes early and be on the sand between Leilani's on the Beach and the Westin to check in and board the zodiac.

Bring reef-safe sunscreen

Only reef-friendly sunscreen is used on board; bring your own to reapply between snorkel stops to protect coral.

Practice basic snorkeling and breath control

Sea scooters add speed; comfortable mask fit and basic snorkel skills reduce fatigue and improve underwater photos.

Secure personal items

Gopros and sea scooters are rentable but secure phones and keys in waterproof cases or leave valuables onshore.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Secluded coral ledges on Lanai's northeast flank that are shallow and teeming with small reef fish
  • Early-morning zodiac rides when the water is glassy and light on the reefs

Wildlife

  • Spinner dolphins
  • Green sea turtles (honu)

Conservation Note

The operator uses reef-safe sunscreen and limits anchoring at sensitive coral sites; guests are asked not to touch marine life or take shells.

These channels were traditional inter-island routes long before tourism; Lanai's cliffs are remnants of volcanic flows shaped by ocean erosion and traditional Hawaiian use.

Photographer's Notes

Best times:Morning (calm water), Golden hour near sunset for coastline silhouettes, Midday for underwater clarity
Key viewpoints:
  • From the bow during transit to capture Lanai's cliffs
  • Head-down shots when using sea scooters
  • Shallow reef edges to frame turtles with coral foreground
Subjects to capture:Underwater reef life, Dolphin bow rides, Lanai coastline
