The Experience

Before You Go

No-fly window

Plan flights to depart at least 18 hours after shallow dives (24 hours for deeper dives) to reduce risk of decompression sickness.

Complete medical consent beforehand

Fill out the PADI medical questionnaire and obtain a doctor’s sign-off if flagged — you’ll be denied boarding without required clearance.

Use reef-safe sunscreen

Wear biodegradable, mineral-based sunscreen or a UV shirt to protect coral and reduce the need to reapply in-water.

Arrive ready and on time

Be at Waikiki Dive Center 15 minutes early; there’s a 15-minute cut-off and late arrivals can forfeit the trip without refund.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Kaneohe Sandbar — shallow boating area east of Honolulu great for glassy conditions and spotting marine life from the surface.
  • Makapuu Lookout — dramatic coastal viewpoint for pre- or post-dive photos and a chance to scan for spinner dolphins.

Wildlife

  • Green sea turtle (honu)
  • Reef sharks and spinner dolphins

Conservation Note

Operators encourage reef-safe sunscreen, no-touch policies, and good buoyancy to avoid coral damage; volunteer reef cleanups and local marine protected areas help preserve dive sites.

Oahu’s reefs developed where volcanic benches meet the sea; traditional Hawaiian practice treats the ocean as a shared resource, and modern operators often work with native cultural values and marine stewardship.

What to Bring

Swimsuit or swim trunksEssential

Wear under your wetsuit or to change into on the boat for comfort and quick gearing up.

Reef-safe sunscreenEssential

Protect reefs and your skin—choose mineral-based SPF to avoid harming coral.

Light windbreaker or rashguard

Prevents sunburn and chills on the boat, especially during early morning or windy conditions.

Dive certification card or IDEssential

Certified divers should bring their card; everyone needs ID and completed medical forms at check-in.

Common Questions

Do I need to be certified to join?

No — beginners can do a guided Discover Scuba session and will receive one-on-one instruction; certified divers should bring their certification card.

How deep are the dives?

This trip focuses on shallow two-tank dives, commonly in the 40–60 ft range; deeper profiles (60–100 ft) may have longer no-fly limits if performed.

Can I bring a camera or get photos?

A personal underwater photographer is available for an additional fee; you can also bring your own waterproof camera if it meets boat rules and is secured.

What is the cancellation policy?

Full refund if you cancel at least 24 hours prior; cancellations or medical disqualifications within 24 hours typically forfeit payment per operator policy.
