The Experience

Before You Go

Bring reef‑safe sunscreen

Coral here is fragile; use reef‑safe sunscreen and reapply under shade to protect both you and the reef.

Wear water shoes

Sharp coral and slippery limestone require protective, grippy footwear for landings and sandbar walks.

Carry a waterproof pouch

Keep phone, cash and passports dry during transfers and while snorkeling or walking sandbars.

Plan for tides

The Tup Island sandbar only fully appears at low tide—ask guides about timing if you want to walk it.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Early-morning Railay West beach for calmer water and dramatic light on the karsts
  • Snorkel pockets off the southern side of Poda Island that often hold schools of wrasse and colorful reef fish

Wildlife

  • Green sea turtles
  • Parrotfish

Conservation Note

This area is in a national park—avoid touching coral, take all trash back to the mainland, and use reef‑safe products to reduce impact.

The limestone karsts were formed over millions of years; Phra Nang Cave also hosts a small shrine linked to local fisherfolk beliefs and offerings to a mythical princess.
