The Experience

Before You Go

Bring reef-safe sunscreen

All swimming and snorkeling happen in sensitive marine areas—use reef-safe sunscreen to protect coral and sea life.

Wear water shoes for shore entries

Some landings are rocky or require stepping on volcanic pebbles; slip-resistant water shoes make boarding and beaching safer.

Hydrate and pace alcohol consumption

Drinks are available onboard but the sun and sea amplify dehydration; alternate alcoholic drinks with water to stay steady.

Listen to safety briefings

Anchoring near cliffs and entering hot springs require following crew instructions for your safety and the vessel’s operation.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Vlychada lunar cliffs and small boat coves—great for photos when crowds are low
  • Mesa Pigadia’s shallow rock gardens are ideal for spotting small reef fish during snorkels

Wildlife

  • Loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta)
  • Mediterranean shearwaters and gulls

Conservation Note

The caldera and surrounding waters are ecologically sensitive; use reef-safe products, avoid touching seabed life, and follow crew guidance to minimize impact.

The Santorini caldera is the remnant of a massive volcanic eruption in the second millennium BCE that reshaped the island and left distinctive red and white volcanic beaches.

Common Questions

Where does the cruise start and how long is the transfer?

Most departures board at Vlychada Port; complimentary hotel pick-up and drop-off by air-conditioned minibus is included and transfer time depends on hotel location (typically 30–45 minutes from central Fira).

Are swims and snorkeling supervised?

Swimming and snorkeling are optional and participants must be capable of doing these activities independently; life jackets are available and children must be supervised by parents.

Can pregnant travelers join and enter the hot springs?

Pregnant guests may join the cruise after consulting their doctor, but hot springs swimming is not recommended due to mineral content and warmer temperatures.

Is food and drink included?

Yes; the cruise includes a BBQ buffet with local dishes, soft drinks, beer, and wine—consume alcohol responsibly as assessed by the captain.
