The Experience

Before You Go

Layer for wind and sun

Atlantic winds can be cold even on sunny days—bring a windproof layer plus sunscreen and a hat.

Bring binoculars

A pair of compact binoculars makes seal and penguin viewing far more rewarding from boardwalks and viewpoints.

Cash for optional extras

Seal-Island boat rides, crafts and some farm stalls accept cash—have small notes on hand.

Respect wildlife distance

Baboons and penguins are wild—do not feed or approach them; keep cameras ready but hands off.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Maiden's Cove viewpoint for quiet Camp’s Bay photos
  • Small artisan stalls and coffee stands in Hout Bay harbor

Wildlife

  • African penguin
  • Chacma baboon

Conservation Note

The Cape Floral Kingdom is fragile and endemic-rich; stay on boardwalks and follow park rules—entrance fees support reserve management and penguin conservation.

Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope sit on centuries of maritime routes; the coastline is littered with shipwreck stories that shaped local navigation and settlement.

Is the boat trip to Seal Island included?

No—the 45-minute return boat to Seal Island is optional and payable locally; prices vary but expect a small per-person fee.

Can the tour operate in bad weather?

The tour runs in most conditions, but Chapman's Peak Drive can close in high winds or heavy rain; guides may alter the route if needed.

Where does the tour start and is a minimum group size required?

Pickup is on the corner of Darling and Lower Long Street (guide by a white jeep). The tour requires a minimum of two people.
